I-85 north traffic will be detoured to Route 1 in North Carolina at Exit 233 for guardrail repairs

RICHMOND – Contractor crews for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will detour all northbound Interstate 85 (I-85) traffic to northbound Route 1 (U.S. 1) in North Carolina at Exit 233 between 5 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Oct. 2 for guardrail repairs at the Roanoke River bridge.   

Motorists should follow the signed detour using northbound Route 1 to eastbound Route 58 (U.S. 58/S. Hill Bypass/E. Atlantic Street) back to I-85 northbound at the interchange.  

The Bracey Rest Area on northbound I-85 will also close starting at 5 p.m. on Oct. 1 until 12 p.m. on Oct. 2. 

Operations will occur as weather allows, and motorists will be advised if schedules change.
